AstronomyReferences on Indian astronomy were reported in Louis Renou’s Bibliographie Védique (1931). The work lists titles on different subjects, including language and sciences, from 1805 to 1930. A more consistent number of references appeared in the five-volume Vedic Bibliography (1946-1993) by Ramchandra Narayan Dandekar. Undertaken as a supplement to Renou’s Bibliographie Védique, the work collects thousands of references from 1946 and 1993. The titles on astronomy are listed in sections 78, 153, in the inaugural volume, and in sections 28, 75, in the other volumes. The most comprehensive bibliography on exact sciences was prepared by David Pingree for his Census of the Exact Sciences in Sanskrit (1970-1994). The work summarizes in five volumes the material on astronomy, astrology, mathematics and divination, collected since 1955 in various libraries in America, Europe and India. In his Jyotiḥśāstra: Astral and Mathematical Literature (1981), the most authoritative study on the subject, Pingree mentioned this work for information about authors, their works and related studies.
